Section 1 General Rules- PCYC Bylaws

11. In the event of impending storms of major proportions, it is the
responsibility of each boat owner to contact the club to see if the
Commodore, or the Board of Directors, has ordered that the
marina be evacuated. If the decision to evacuate is made and a
boat is not removed by the time that the evacuation order takes
effect, the member whose boat has not been removed shall be
subject to a fine, disciplinary action inclusive of a temporary loss
of marina privileges, or both as determined by the PCYC Board of
Directors. If damage is done to the marina due to the member’s
boat not being removed in a timely manner, the member shall, in
addition to the imposition of any fine or penalty imposed by the
PCYC Board of Directors, be liable for the cost of damages to
PCYC’s facilities.
PCYC shall make the boat yard, and the parking lot, available to
its members to store their boats whenever the marina is ordered
evacuated and whenever a hurricane watch is declared for Salem
Harbor, excepting only such parking lot space that is required to be
left open by law for emergency access to the property.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO TODAY?

  • All boat-owning members of PCYC must have the ability and a plan to remove their boat from the marina.

  • Yard storage is possible but NOT GUARANTEED. Get your mooring serviced and keep it ready to properly hold your boat. Check and replace pendants if needed.

  • If you don’t have a mooring have some other plan to move your boat to safe waters or to haul out somewhere other than PCYC.

  • Even without an imminent hurricane all boaters should have proper lines: All boats shall be secured with the proper line size. In storms it is best practice to move up a size.
    a. Up to 20’ --- 3/8” minimum
    b. 21’ to 35’ --- 1/2” minimum
    c. 36’ to 45’ --- 5/8” minimum

  • Have extra lines on your boat. Boats are way more expensive than extra lines. Check your current lines for damage and replace frayed lines today.

  • Have good, inflated fenders.
